A Greg N-I-C-E, even WC thought so

I still remember the first thought I had when I saw the DWYCK video for the first time back in the early 90s, and that was "I gotta learn how to do that Greg Nice sway dance". However since the internet and youtube didn't exist, and also because cable television
was for rich folks according to my mom; I was only able to catch glimpses at a time of this video or any music video for that matter. Little did I know there would be more history to that song than I ever thought. Like Greg Nice said, it was like his friend June Love's
spirit jumped into his body, and I think that's what happened during the video shoot. Sometimes you dance slow sometimes you dance quick.
This new owner is clearly a scammer; just have a look at their website. Their contact form doesn't even work properly, but I'm sure their payment gateway will. So as a heads up to all our listeners; do not sign up or pay for any services they offer, as we the real 76RadiO will never charge you or solicit you for any of our services. We strive on broadcasting you real independent musicians, who are highly underrated, through a 24/7 streaming radio platform which will always be FREE. We are NOT and will never offer third party affiliate's or other services, as we will ONLY provide you with the music we broadcast. Currently, we are working on an alternate solution, and will be removing our old domain tags. In the meantime the station will continue to be online 24/7. Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention, and we hope that clears things up...Now on with the music!Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-759763520900307428.post-33193903932496837882017-05-31T09:00:00.000-07:002017-06-01T23:23:21.077-07:00G Rap, What You Know About That?

30 Years later, and still inspiring others with his timeless style

The originator of "Machine-Gun Raps", and most underrated Artist to come out of Juice Crew, G Rap would later inspire some of the best MCs that ever did it. When he was asked who is his top ten favorite lyrical Artists are, the answer didn't include the typical Tupac namedrop and here's why: "(Tu)Pac was more than just an Artist, he was a statement of the times. Pac was a stance. He's beyond just being lyrical." Furthermore, he added "How can or could you pick one best rapper of all time?" Return of the Don, dropping June 2, 2017
The Secret Album Dropped!

We Got It From Here, Thank You 4 Your Service - Named by Phife (God Bless the Dead) and recorded prior to his passing in March, it includes new collabos with Elton John, Talib Kweli, Jack White, Andre 3000, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Anderson Paak, and of course Busta Rhymes & Consequence. Sticking to their roots has always been their motto, so you won't find any ghost writers or ghost producers here. All tracks were written and produced by A Tribe Called Quest, and if Dilla was still with us you already know he would have got down on it as well. The Ummah The Ummah Ummah

"We The People", definitely describes our current political state today even before it happened (since the album was mostly recorded last year). It's no wonder it was coincidentally released on Veteran's Day. The song Whateva Will Be reflects that as well: "Some will dash for the mountains some will crawl, and the weakest amongst them they will fall, but the strongest they think they will stand ta-ta-tall, everybody's running when they see the storm's coming but whatever's gonna be will be"

If you haven't copped it already:

GooglePlay
iTunes
Amazon

The album's name was chosen by Phife, and the rest of the members said they didn't understand it's meaning. But after listening to this album, and searching my memory bank (my brain) it's pretty obvious. Any real ATCQ fan will understand, but if you need to just go back to their first album. It's even in the name, R.I.P Phife Diggy! Been a Native Tongue since day one, thanks for the journey!
To all those that made the Ultimate Sacrifice...Gone but never forgotten. To those that come back physically and mentally scarred we need to take care of them! With all the political issues dominating the airwaves today, it's sad to see that hardly anyone (except advertisers) posted anything honoring our nation's heroes. So here is Vietnam in HD for you kids to learn where you favorite rapper's rapper style was influenced from, but more importantly why you're free to pursue music in the first place. Remember just because you may think life is bad now, it could always get worse. Salute to all our brothers and sisters! It's no mystery that the music or record business has been on the steady decline since the year 2000 hit the scene. From the Napster days, to Shoutcast, to burning CDs, to Limewire, to illegal Blogs/Forums, to iTunes, and now to Spotify, the listeners have been running rampant like it was the music apocalypse. However, now that the technology dust has settled so have the majority of the listener base. The sales for CDs or physical media are almost non-existent, and they continued to plunge through out the first half of 2016. In contrast, the RIAA announced that recorded music generated 8.1 percent more revenue in the first six months of 2016 than it did during the first half of 2015. So now that the we're finished going downhill, hopefully we can start climbing back up again.

According to the RIAA, the increase in digital sales came from a massive growth spurt of service subscribers. While 2015 peaked with 10.8 million subscribers, the amount of subscribers reached 18.3+ million by the first half of 2016. In addition, the European market went up as well, with an increase in France by 6 percent, and the U.K by 10.9 percent. However, keep in mind this is only for digital subscribers, with most of them coming from a small handful of sources. Major labels have played a significant role in Spotify's success, with an 18% ownership through equity, and other undisclosed ad campaign amounts. This has firmly placed them in first place with over 40 million paid subscribers. Apple Music is now second with 17 million, but that could all change by early 2017 with over 60 million Amazon Prime members being spammed daily. Furthermore, iHeart Radio and YouTube Red are serious competitors as well.

So how they gonna change the game again this time? Basically they're gonna hit their subscribers with consumption rates over transaction rates. For example, if I sell you a CD for $10, or even an MP3 song for $1, and you go somewhere with it to listen to it. You can listen to that song or album at will, anytime you chose at your leisure. You never have to pay or see me ever again. However, imagine I put a timer on that CD or MP3 file which only allowed you to listen for as long as I say so. Like smartphone data plans of 2-4 years ago, you're going to end up paying for a bandwidth limit. I'm sure premium users will have plenty or unlimited "bandwidth", however at what price? To avoid confusion with wi-fi bandwidth through your carrier, they will probably rename it to something else like, "Loyalty Points".

Independent Artists will need to focus more on driving plays and subscribers to their member pages, rather than online downloadable purchases. Instead of funneling your social media followers to your music download store(s), you will need to direct them to your streaming network member pages.

The good news? In the past, new music used to generate more revenue than shelved music, but due to the new system that's been reversed. The earning span of most music has continually risen over the years, and is expected to continue rising. Old "New" music is being re-discovered everyday, and listeners are jumping onto alternate choices of the mainstream norm. Online radio stations have become very popular, from TuneIn, to Shoutcast, to other popular online directories there's something for everyone.

Shoutcast was the first form of streaming music created back in 1998. I still remember making my own themes for Winamp back in the early 2000s, while browsing the directory of online stations. In 2009 they announced that they had over 900 thousand listeners, with that amount being well over 1 million by now. In addition, there are hundreds of undocumented private streams which could contain thousands of listeners in total. They are now, in 2016, syndicated through many mobile, Android, and iPhone apps making it even easier for new listeners to find new stations. Furthermore, they are even being syndicated through Apple Radio reaching all Apple Music subscribers.

Shoutcast back in December 2000

So then should I invest everything into Spotify or a smaller market such as Shoutcast? You should really invest into all, as many avenues as possible. However, it's all in vain if you don't secure your royalties. There are three main types in addition to the standard shares the providers offer.

Mechanical

Performance

Usage

On average, Spotify will pay you about half a cent ($0.005) per stream. Their contract states 70%, but keep in mind that is only for shared revenue (not gross). In addition to that, they also state it only includes revenue which they receive back to the rights holders. So for example, let's say you obtain your licensing and publishing through CD Baby, then you can guess who ends up keeping a large chunk of your money. But that is the cost of doing business, so in 2017 invest wisely in your ad campaigns. At less than half a cent per stream, you will have to carefuly watch your advertising budget, and probably re-adjust more periodically than normal. Putting all your chips into one table is probably not a good idea. Instead build houses and stack up points when your turn is up like bones, Domino!

I wouldn't go as far as to call Howard Stern a hypocrite, but we gotta agree with Artie that the show has become the exact opposite of what it once was. Granted Artie was never the "play by the rules" type, and was given numerous chances to get right, however that still doesn't change or affect the fact that the show has been severely watered down. Remember when you were a kid, and you would want to know everything about whichever famous person you were a fan of? What I mean is for example, I was (and always am) a fan of A Tribe Called Quest, so when I was a kid and would see their videos on TV, I wanted to know everything about them. Anytime they would pop up in a magazine, tv-commercials, or some sort of other media outlet my attention would be fixed absorbing as much information as I could about them. Keep in mind this was before the internet in the early 90s. Today of course we have the internet, so I can read and watch videos about them all day long at will.

So how do you expect to have any real fans if they know nothing about you? Who wants to be a fan of a hollow shell? People are fascinated by good stories, controversy, and drama on all levels (not just fighting). Producers and DJs can get by with the, "behind the scenes" techniques, however as a Recording Artist your Biography, your Struggle is supposed to reflect in your artform. Art is an expression of something you are, not something you do. Something you do is work, like as in a 9-5, thus no one will find that exciting nor appealing. If you have no story, no struggle, then use that in a creative way such as making fun of yourself.

Whatever you do, do not leave your Bio pages blank or stale. If it's been a while since you've last updated it, then start drafting up a new one, and take your time on it. Get someone un-bias to proofread it for you as well, such as someone outside your area who won't be tied down by local bs and simplicity. Dig into your memory banks and talk about interesting moments in your life. Hurry up before the Alzheimer's sets in! But seriously tell your story, and use your Instagram to illustrate what you're saying instead of random or repetitive moments (which are boring, as we've all seen it, we've all been there).

Use your Social Media Accounts as a Blog
If you're thinking about creating your own Blog keep in mind that a lot of technical and tedious work will have to go into it. SEO techniques are just the tip of the iceberg of what you will need to learn, and will take many months before you really see any results. Furthermore, there were 7 million blogs ten years ago, and now in 2016 it's estimated to be around 140-170 million blogs. High competition is a serious understatement there, but do you know where you can start your own Blog without having to learn about SEO, and where you can get instant traffic? Your social media account, which originally was created for that exact reason. Remember Myspace? It was intended to be personal blog pages, where users could post anything they found relevant and share it instantly with both their real life and online friends/family. Sound familiar? Well that's because Tom figured this out back in 2003. So stop spamming, and start blogging on your social media accounts if you want people to share your posts.

Once you gain a strong following through solid content/material, then you can begin spamming your audience in-between relevant posts.

Practice Discipline in your Social Media Posts
If you're going to use social media as an avenue to ultimately sell your music, then you need to treat it like other avenues. A good practice to use is pretend the people you are talking to are right there in the room with you. Would you talk to them the same? Would you spam them relentlessly or act superior to them in any way? Do you know what the definition of politics is? Remember, as a recording Artist you are essentially running for MC (Master of the Ceremony). While the times may change, the essentials will always remain the same. But don't take my word for it, just look at E-40 or Too Short, since the 80s they've held office.

Using Hashtags and Engaging your Audience
So you've been using hashtags everywhere, and even managed to manipulate brand or name recognition to generate traffic like you were Jeff Johnson (on The Distinguished Gentleman). However, most of your traffic is useless non-targeted, or just simply not interested in what you have to offer. This is because you're competing with millions of other people doing the same thing, which ultimately means you're spamming.

That is why you need to Engage your Audience. Whatever your hashtag leads to, it needs to grab the visitor's attention. What better way to grab a person's attention than to get them involved. Everyone loves to see their name or be glorified in some manner, as believe me I've used that basic psychology to sell many beats in the past, and it was always successful. Furthermore, don't remove negative comments or opinions you don't agree with. Instead, ENGAGE them in good conversation, you know like how we used to do before the internet. Like I said before, times may change but essentials remain the same, people are always gonna be people so treat them as such.
Too $hort on why he's originally from South Central LA, and the difference between, "Finesse and Gorilla Pimpin". Then meeting Biggie before he was B.I.G, to not being able to say no to Puffy, "He's a bully man". No surprise that Redman was dispensing weed at the Branson, and still rocking the mic at 50, Too Short is a living legend.
E-40 Interview September 2016

On DrinkChamps

E-40 reminisces about 2Pac; "I wish he was alive, trust me it'll be some turned around shit out here", to clearing up the old rumors about Biggie, "I wish he was alive too, I was supposed to be on his last album, if you look in the booklet it says shout out to E-40". P&D keeps his profit rate at 83% and the label only takes 17% which needless to say is fucking incredible. 83/17 are you independent artists out there listening? Get a pressing and distribution deal, and don't sign your life away on 15/85 deal. Remember Master P and E-40 were literally selling thousands of tapes out their trunk successfully, and they both went to college in the 80s. Furthermore, he's still going Gold today, and now producing his own liqour. What ya'll know about Moesha's? I was in High School when the show was on and so was 40-Water. Sprinkle me man

Mailing CDs and a Press Kit to a Terrestrial Radio Station is Played Out Right?

If we're talking your top 5 local stations; who solely rely on their advertiser's budget's, which are filled with ads, and crappy cookie cutout music then yeah it's played out. However, there are still terrestrial radio stations out there who are truly independent and do not rely on big name advertiser's money. Who would have thought in 2016, that there are stations buried under page 9000 of Google search results who still accept the old fashioned method of mailing your music submissions manually.

While their online presence may not be big, their local presence has been established decades ago with some of the most hardcore fans you will ever meet....next to a bunch of teenage girls at "Next Famous Boy Band's Name Here" concert.
"It's a beautiful Best Buy plaza now but when I was growing up it was a dirt lot". Just like Brooklyn, Compton is now a social media trending city because of it's violent past. I'm not sure if the pattern is due to where I grew up at or simply because their music was fit more to my vibe.
